Description:
Guadalupe is a post-Christian era Aztec Goddess of the ripening corn, appropriated by the Catholic priests as a form of the Virgin Mary. She is worshipped as the Chief Goddess of Mexican Brujeria (a powerful folk magic of the Mexican and Mexican-Indian peoples). She is invoked for both her peaceful aspect as Madre Mercedes (or Guadalupe), and her wrathful aspect as the black Madre Negrita, La Reina de los Noches, or Queen of the Night.
