Description:
Tansy is a hardy perennial, belonging to the Compositae (Asteraceae) family. It has a stout and somewhat purplish brown erect stem that branches near the top, finely divided feathery fernlike leaves, and clusters of small button like, bright yellow flowers. All parts of the Tansy plant yields an aromatic lemon fragrance when crumbled.

Culinary Uses:
To make a tea, infuse 1 teaspoon of Tansy Herb in 1 cup boiling water and steep for a short period only. Tea made with Tansy should be made weak, and drank in moderation.

Medicinal Uses:
Tansy activates the spleen, stomach and uterus, cleanses the liver and kidneys, and kills parasites.

Precautions and Adverse Reactions:
POISON. Tansy should not be used during pregnancy. In moderate doses the herb has a mild, tonic effect, but keep in mind that herbs that have strong activity against parasites should be used cautiously as they often have toxic side effects.
