Description:
Sesame is a herbaceous annual plant, belonging to the Pedaliaceae family. It has a a small taproot, a branching stem with opposite leaves, single light pinkish white flowers. The fruit is an oblong brown capsule with small and flat teardrop shaped seeds. Black Sesame Seeds are the unhulled seeds from the ripe seed pods of the Sesame plant. Black Sesame Seeds are naturally sweet and have a deliciously unique nut like flavor.

Culinary Uses:
Black Sesame Seeds have a sweet, nutty flavor and can be added to rolls, meats, pastas, and vegetables.

Medicinal Uses:
Sesame is known to tonify kidney, liver and relax the bowel. It is used for the treatment of constipation due to hard stools, tinnitus, anaemia, dizziness and poor vision. The oil if the Sesame seed is high in polyunsaturated fat. When used in moderation, this type of fat can benefit the heart by helping the body to eliminate newly made cholesterol.

Precautions and Adverse Reactions:
Sesame Seeds should not be used in cases with diarrhea.
