Description:
Rhubarb is a stout herbaceous perennial, belonging to the Polygonaceae family. Rhubarb is thought of as a fruit, but it is actually a perennial vegetable. It has a root that is thick, with a brown exterior and deep yellow interior and sends off long, tapering branches. The long thick succulent stalks are branched towards the top with very large spade shaped leaves with curled edges. The Rheum Palmatum variety of Rhubarb has a much stronger taste and properties than the common American variety.

Culinary Uses:
Rhubarb Root is added to tonic wines.
To make a tea, pour 1 cup boiling water over 1/2 teaspoon of Rhubarb Root, cover and steep 3-5 minutes.

Medicinal Uses:
Rhubarb Root is known to be used as a laxative and purgative for the treatment of both constipation and diarrhea, depending upon the dosage used. Larger doses cause purging that removes toxins from the in testinal tract, while smaller doses are believed to moisten the mucous membranes of the intestines and improve their tone.

Precautions and Adverse Reactions:
Rhubarb Root should not be used if you have or develop diarrhea, loose stools or abdominal pain. Consult your physician if you have frequent diarrhea. If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication or have a medical condition, consult your physician before using this product. Not for long-term use.
