It has a thick trunk and numerous irregular knotted branches and smaller clustered branchlets. Myrrh consists of the pale yellow granular secretion that is discharged into cavities in the bark after incisions have been made to it. The oleo-gum tear hardens to a red-brown mass about the size of a walnut.
