It is a small and bushy tropical evergreen with smooth, greyish-brown bark, scented dark-green leaves, and scented tiny yellow flowers. The smooth and yellow fruit of this tree provides us with two separate spices, Mace and Nutmeg. Mace is the bright red covering (the aril) and Nutmeg (the nucleus) is the seed. Mace's taste and smell is a bit more delicate and sweet than that of Nutmeg.
