Description:
Lovage is a robust perennial herb belonging to the Campanulaceae (Lobeliaceae) family. It is a hardy plant with a thick and fleshy root shaped like a carrot, that is greyish-brown on the outside and whitish on the inside. It has thick, erect hollow a stems, with large, shinny dark green leaves, and when bruised they give out an aromatic odor, somewhat reminiscent both of Angelica and Celery. The stems divide towards the top to form opposite whorled branches, bearing umbels of yellow flowers, followed by small, extremely aromatic fruits.

Culinary Uses:
Lovage Root should be used sparingly at first until one gets used to the taste. Lovage Root can be added to soups, and used to season chili, stews, chicken pie, tuna casserole and other seafood dishes. The dried root when ground has a nutty flavor.

Medicinal Uses:
Lovage Root has been known to be used internally for bronchitis, catarrh, colds, colic, cystitis, dysmenorrhea, dyspepsia, edema, flatulence, flu, indigestion, jaundice, malaria, migraine, pleurisy, poor appetite, and rheumatism. lovage helps to eliminate water in the body and soften deposits. Externaly, Lovage Root has helped with blemishes, freckles, sore throat, and tonsillitis.

Precautions and Adverse Reactions:
Lovage is not recommended for use by persons taking blood thinning agents. This product may cause a skin rash. Discontinue use if a rash occurs. Not to be used during pregnancy or by persons with impaired or inflamed kidneys.
