Description:
Lobelia is an annual belonging to the Campanulaceae (Lobeliaceae) family. Its simple erect stem has a few short branches and is smooth above, while the lower part is rough hairy. The leaves are placed alternately along the stem, with the flowers on long pedicles in the leaf axils. They are pale violet-blue and lightly tinged with pale yellow and the fruit consists of an ovoid capsule containing numerous small, brown and reticulate seeds.

Medicinal Uses:
Lobelia has been known to be used internally for asthma, bronchial spasms, bruises, cigarette addiction, cough, diphtheria, edema, epilepsy, insect bites, muscle spasms, rheumatism, sprains, tonsillitis, and whooping cough.

Precautions and Adverse Reactions:
POISON. Lobelia may cause nausea and vomiting if ingested. Not to be used during pregnancy.
