Description:
Irish Moss, known as Carrageen, is a perennial red algae, belonging to the Gigartinaceae family. It is an Irish seaweed that grows in waters off of the Atlantic coast. The thallus is usually purplish-brown when fresh and yellow and translucent after drying. Irish Moss is hand harvested and allowed to sun-dry and bleach in an open-air field until it is dry.
