Description:
Golden Rod is a perennnial plant belonging to the Compositae (Asteraceae) family. It has an erect and downy stem, clear green alternate leaves, and masses of fragrant bright golden-yellow flowers. Goldenrod is an aromatic herb and when bruised, both leaves and flowers give off a fragrance rather like wild carrot.

Culinary Uses:
To make a tea, infuse 1 teaspoon of Goldenrod Herb in a covered cup of boiling water and steep for 3 to 5 minutes.

Medicinal Uses:
An infusion of the leaves is taken as a treatment for excessive menstruation, arthritis and eczema, and will remove feelings of nausea due to stomach disorder. Goldenrod helps to thin mucus secretions and relieve congested mucus. It promotes urination, cleans the kidneys, reduces inflammation and prevents infection. Goldenrod helps hay fever. The powder of the dried leaves can be applied to ulcers externally to stimulate healing.
