Its bark is ash to dark brown in color and has rough grooves and its distinctive, fan-shaped leaves are bright green in spring and summer, and turn golden yellow in autumn. The leaves of the Ginkgo are harvested in fall as they start to turn yellow because that is when the flavonoid content is the highest.

Culinary Uses: To make a tea, pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 teaspoon of Ginkgo Leaf, cover and steep 3-5 minutes.
