Description:
The Eucalyptus tree is an evergreen belonging to the Myrtaceae family. It has a blue-gray trunk, blue-green leaves when young that grow long and darker with age, and white flower stamen. The plant’s leaves and the oil that is steam-distilled from them are used medicinally.

Culinary Uses:
To make a tea, pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 teaspoon of Eucalyptus leaf, cover and steep 3-5 minutes.

Medicinal Uses:
Eucalyptus is a powerful antiseptic, and is used to treat pyorrhea (gum disease), used on burns to prevent infections, and eases nausea. When mixed with water or vegetable oils, Eucalyptus Leaf makes a good insect repellant. Eucalyptus Leaf can be boiled to create steam that can be breathed in to help clear the sinuses and treat asthma, coughs and stuffy nose.

Precautions and Adverse Reactions:
Eucalyptus should not be used by persons with inflammatory diseases of the gastro-intestinal and bile ducts and severe diseases of the liver. Do not use eucalyptus preparations on areas of the face and especially the nose in infants and young children.
