Description:
Elder Berries are the fruit of the European Elder, a tree belonging to the Caprifoliaceae family. It is a shallow-rooted tree with spreading branches, strongly perfumed masses of creamy-white flowers, followed by large drooping bunches of purplish-black berries with blood-red juice and brownish colored seeds.

Culinary Uses:
Elder Berries have long been used for making many homemade drinks and preserves that are great favorites. Rehydrate to make the old fashioned Elderberry jam and jellies.
To Make a tea, pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 teaspoon of whole Elder Berries, cover and steep 3-5 minutes.

Medicinal Uses:
Whole Elder Berries can be used for colic and diarrhoea, a tea made of the dried berries is said to be a good remedy.
