Description:
Roman Chamomile is an aromatic, low-growing, creeping or trailing, considerably branched perennial belonging to the Compositae (Asteraceae) family. It shares with other members of the family, the characteristic of having tiny flowers grouped together to form the daisy-like head bearing perfumed flowers with yellow centers and white florets.

Culinary Uses:
Both flowers and leaves of Roman Chamomile are used for making herb beers.
To make a tea, steep 2 teaspoons of dried German Chamomile Flowers in 1 cup of boiling water for 3 - 5 minutes. While making a tea, be sure the container is covered while in use or part of the properties of the plant will be lost.

Medicinal Uses:
Chamomile soothes the nerves and stomach, and calms the body for inducing sleep in insomniac conditions. It nourishes the respiratory tract and helps alleviate discomfort associated with menstrual problems. It is also a good wash for sore eyes and open sores. The tea is useful for small children with colds and stomach troubles. Chamomile tea is used to treat headaches due to caffeine withdrawal.

Precautions and Adverse Reactions:
Roman Chamomile Flowers should not be used during pregnancy. Because of its calming effects, chamomile should not be taken in conjunction with sedative medications (particularly those that belong to a class called benzodiazepines such as alprazolam and lorazepam) or alcohol. Patients taking blood-thinning medications such as warfarin should use Chamomile only under the careful supervision of a healthcare practitioner as this herb may enhance the effects of the medication.
