Description:
Caraway Seed is the fruit of a hardy biennial herb of the Umbelliferae family. Caraway produces aromatic, finely divided, fern-like leaves and the fruit (technically a schizocarp) comprises two distinct halves (mericarps), These "half-fruits" each contain an aromatic tannish-brown seed that has a nutty, delicate dill and anise-like flavor. Whole Caraway Seeds are used in baking breads especially rye bread, but the aromatic, spicy seeds can also be used in the making of various sachets.

Culinary Uses:
Caraway seeds are used for flavoring and seasoning of breads and cookies, stews, soups , salads, cabbage slaws and sauerkraut, and other vegetable dishes. It is also used to flavor sausage, cheese, various sauces, and the liqueur Kummel.
To make a tea, grind or crush 1 teaspoon of Caraway Seeds, cover with 1 cup of boiling water and steep to taste.

Medicinal Uses:
Caraway improves circulation and aids digestion. Being an antispasmodic it can help relax intestinal and uterine cramping. It can help promote menses, can increase a mother's milk. Caraway is good to add to cough remedies as an expectorant and it can be made into a tea to relieve respiratory congestion.
