Description:
Bistort is a plant belonging to the Polygonaceae family. It has a thick and short, knotted root which is blackish on the outside and reddish inside, The name Bistort bears reference to the twice-twisted character of the root-stock. A number of tuberous roots are produced from the root-stock and and shaped like a letter 'S'. Bistort Root is rich in tannin and has an astringent and starchy taste, but no odor.
