Balm of Gilead is the resinous bud from the North American Poplar tree, belonging to the Salicaceae family. The buds are covered with a fragrant and sticky resinous matter, which has formed the basis for many home remedies.

They can be used externally to treat inflammatin due to rheumatism or arthritis and some skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, as well as frostbite and sunburn.
