Description:
Astragalus is a perennial herb belonging to the Leguminosae (Fabaceae) family. Astragalus is a powerful immune booster and it is one of the principal herbs used in Chinese Medicine. It is often cooked with broths, rice, or beans for a boost to the healing energies during those illnesses that prevent one from eating normally.

Culinary Uses:
Astragalus can be cooked into an immune building soup with garlic, onions, carrots, shiitake mushrooms and miso.
To make a tea, steep 1 teaspoon of dried Astragalus root in 1 cup of boiling water for 3 - 5 minutes.

Medicinal Uses:
Astragalus raises metabolism and strengthens digestion, and is used in the healing of wounds and injuries. It is also used to treat general digestive disturbances, including diarrhea, gas, and bloating.
