Agar Agar Powder (GRACILARIA LICHENOIDES)

Description:
Agar Agar is the powdered refined mucilage from several seaweeds and red algae from the Rhodophyceae family. It is colorless, tasteless and can absorb up to 200 times its volume of water to form a gel. Agar is commonly referred to as Chinese gelatin.

Culinary Uses:
When dissolved in boiling water and cooled, Agar-Agar powder contains glose and becomes gelatinous. It can be used as a vegetarian gelatin substitute for thickening soups, sauces, jellies and ice cream.

Medicinal Uses:
Agar-agar is approximately 80% fiber and shredded Agar can be used as a laxative. It is preferably not given in powder, as it has been known to cause rise to irritation in some cases.

Precautions and Adverse Reactions:
Taking this herb without adequate fluid may cause esophageal and/or bowel obstruction.
